The "Electric Swamp Funkin' Blues" by the award-winning Selwyn Birchwood.

The "Electric Swamp Funkin' Blues" by award-winning Selwyn Birchwood, a true force of nature, will enchant the square in Cevio. Appointment Wednesday, July 24, 2024. Not to be missed!

The organization of the 22nd edition of "Vallemaggia Magic Blues" continues in full swing. After presenting the "Magic Rock Night" with Glenn Hughes formerly of Deep Purple, a true legend of world rock, and the evening with the star of the world blues scene Duke Robillard, here is another gem of the Vallemaggia festival. While waiting for the full program to be made official at the end of March, we are no longer in the saddle to introduce you to another great artist who will come to the Valley next summer: the award-winning Selwyn Birchwood, a young musician from Florida, a true force of nature who is coming to "Vallemaggia Magic Blues" for the first time.

On Wednesday, July 24, for the first night in Cevio we will have the rising star of world blues Selwyn Birchwood with his very personal "Electric Swamp Funkin' Blues". Opening, after last year's concert under the deluge, Edoardo Bennato's guitarist Gennaro Porcelli, considered by public and critics one of the Blues talents "made in Italy," returns.

"No one in the blues compares to the young Florida guitarist Selwyn Birchwood. With the quality of his material, combined with a vibrant stage persona, there is no need to borrow songs from the greats who came before him. Lean but mean and tough... lyrically and musically intense". Although award-winning Florida musician Selwyn Birchwood (born 1985) is firmly rooted in tradition (influenced by Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Guy), the young guitarist, lap steel player, songwriter and singer charts a course for the future of the blues with his visionary and original music. His band deploys a very personal sound and style. He calls it "Electric Swamp Funkin' Blues", a heady mix of deep blues, psychedelic-tinged rock, butt-shaking funk and sweet southern soul, played and sung with the fervor of a preacher. With his new release, Exorcist Birchwood offers the most musically adventurous album of his career. Each of the 13 vividly detailed songs, written and arranged by Birchwood, lay bare the soul, striking everyone with enduring rhymes and unexpected rhythms. According to Blues Music Magazine: 'Selwyn Birchwood announces an exciting new direction in the blues. Foot tapping, hip shaking, joyful and inviting, expansive and focused, exploratory and ancient, but always original." With his warm and magnetic personality live Birchwood is a force of nature. His ability to captivate any audience is demonstrated night after night on stages halfway around the world. The Selwyn Birchwood Band is touring virtually non-stop. They have performed at the Chicago Blues Festival, the Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland, the Mississippi Valley Blues Festival, the Tampa Bay Blues Festival, and the North Atlantic Blues Festival. Internationally, at the Montreux Jazz Festival, as well as giving concerts throughout Europe. He finally arrives at the Vallemaggia Magic Blues.

Since 2005 Edoardo Bennato's guitarist, Gennaro Porcelli is considered by public and critics to be one of the Blues talents 'made in Italy' with a musical repertoire that ranges from Chicago style to New Orleans style, from Austin style to Memphis style, almost as if to retrace Highway 61, the famous American highway along which the different styles of the Blues have developed. In 2010, Gennaro landed for the first time in the United States, where he toured the stages of New York's B.B. King's and the Bitter End, the Big Apple's longest running and most prestigious club, together with Jon Paris (Johnny Winter's legendary bass player) and Steve Holley (drummer of Paul McCartney's Wings and Popa Chubby). In 2014, he released 'Alien in Transit', on which the likes of Mark Epstein, Andy J. Forest, Ronnie Jones and Rudy Rotta collaborated. Among the illustrious names Gennaro has had the pleasure of playing with are Alex Britti, Louisiana Red, Kenny Neal, Ronnie Jones, Tony Esposito, Roberto Ciotti, Rudy Rotta and Tullio De Piscopo. Established musicians with whom he has shared the stage include Hot Tuna, Eric Sardinas, Corey Harris, Louisiana Mojo Queen, Tolo Marton, Uli John Roth, Billy Branch and Robben Ford. Also noteworthy is his recent live performance with the great Texas guitarist Buddy Whittington, historical member of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. In 2015, he represented Italy at the European Blues Challenge.
