Who could forget the magical evening of July 31, 2019 in Avegno, when the Delta Groove Band opened for the American group Delta Moon, winning over the audience and receiving heartfelt praise from their late frontman, Tom Grey. An event remembered as one of the most successful nights ever. It all starts far away, in Mississippi in 1911, where a poor, mud-covered African American boy was born—destined to change the history of music: Robert Johnson, the King of Delta Blues. His songs, born of sweat and dust, have inspired generations of artists, from the Rolling Stones to Eric Clapton, from Bob Dylan to the Allman Brothers, and continue to resonate with the rawest strings of authentic Blues. The Delta Groove Band carries on that legacy. The four musicians from Ticino, each with different backgrounds but united by a love for Delta Blues, bring their sincere passion to the stage. Founded in Ticino in 2016 as a quartet, the band has evolved over time through collaborations and experimentation. Today, with Frapolli (drums), Reichlin (bass), Croci (slide guitar), and Frei (guitar and vocals), they also perform original songs rooted in the traditions of Mississippi. Last year, they reached the finals of the 14th Swiss Blues Challenge on the stage in Giumaglio. Their mission remains unchanged: to keep the deep spirit of Delta Blues alive and relevant.
