MAGIC ROCK NIGHTS. Appointment with history! In Cevio, 60 years later returns to Ticino, an authentic piece of rock history, The Yardbirds. Opening The "twins" guitars and the powerful voice of FM for a great rock evening. Two creepy main-acts!!!
For the second “Magic Rock Night”, 60 years after their one and only legendary performance in Ticino, a true piece of rock history is coming to Cevio: the iconic Yardbirds! Co-founder Jim McCarty continues to lead this groundbreaking group from the British Rock Invasion—an essential bridge between blues, British R&B, psychedelic rock, and heavy metal. The band pioneered the use of effects like fuzztone, feedback, and distortion. As a drummer, singer, songwriter, and producer, McCarty remains a driving force behind the band’s unmistakable sound. Since their formation in 1963 and their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, The Yardbirds have been celebrated for the legendary guitarists who helped shape their legacy—Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page among them. They pushed boundaries into pop, spearheaded psychedelic and early hard rock/heavy metal, and revolutionized the electric guitar’s role in modern music. From their very roots, the mighty Led Zeppelin was born! This will be a historic concert—a truly unmissable event!
Opening the evening are FM, the acclaimed British band known for their soaring choruses, twin guitars, and the powerful voice of Steve Overland. Formed in 1984 by vocalist Steve Overland, his brother Chris, Pete Jupp, and Merv Goldsworthy, FM drew inspiration from seminal bands like Free and Bad Company. They quickly rose to prominence in the melodic rock scene, headlining tours and sharing stages with the likes of Status Quo, Whitesnake, Foreigner, Journey, Thin Lizzy, and Skid Row, to name a few. FM means class, musicianship, and unforgettable songs! This year they celebrate 40 years of pure melodic rock with their 14th studio album, Old Habits Die Hard, and an extensive tour across the UK, Europe, and South America—making their long-awaited debut at Magic Blues!

FM
UK

In the summer of 1984, singer Steve Overland and his guitarist brother Chris (both former members of Wildlife) joined drummer Pete Jupp and bassist Merv Goldsworthy (formerly of Diamond Head and Samson) to form FM. Thanks to their talent, they quickly secured a contract with CBS and headed to Germany for a series of shows with Meat Loaf. More touring followed (Tina Turner, Foreigner and Gary Moore), along with the release of their debut album Indiscreet 1988, which received great critical acclaim. Their music was inspired by seminal bands such as Free and Bad Company. Over the next nine years, FM solidified their position at the forefront of British melodic rock with numerous headlining tours and joining bands like Status Quo and Whitesnake to promote albums such as Tought it out and Takin' it to the streets, with Andy Barnett replacing the late Chris Overland. Two more albums followed before their 12-year sabbatical hiatus! In 2007, FM were persuaded to return to the stage for a “one-off” headlining performance at Firefest IV in Nottingham Rock City, which sold out completely. This prompted the band to record a new album and, after a return to Firefest in 2009, to continue touring, with Jim Kirkpatrick (Band of Friends) replacing Andy Barnett on lead guitar. Since then, FM have never stopped, headlining tours both in the UK and internationally, as well as performing as special guests on tours with Foreigner, Journey, Thin Lizzy, and Skid Row. In 2018, they released their first-ever live album. In 2024, FM celebrated their 40th anniversary with the release of their 14th studio album, “Old habits die hard”, accompanied, as always, by an extensive schedule of live performances.

The Yardbirds
USA

Yardbirds co-founder Jim McCarty continues to lead this groundbreaking British Rock Invasion band, a crucial link between blues, British R&B, psychedelic rock and heavy metal. He was also a pioneer in the use of innovations such as fuzztone, feedback, and distortion. This drummer, singer, songwriter, and producer is considered one of the driving forces behind the band's mesmerizing sound. From the band's inception in 1963 to its induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, The Yardbirds have been revered for the legendary guitarists who have shaped their history, including Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page—all ranked among Rolling Stone magazine's 100 greatest guitarists of all time (#35, #5, and #3, respectively). Originally a blues-based band known for their distinctive "rave-up" instrumental jams on blues classics such as Howlin’ Wolf’s Smokestack Lightning and Bo Diddley’s I'm a Man, The Yardbirds later expanded into pop, pioneered psychedelic rock and early hard rock/heavy metal, and contributed to many electric guitar innovations that defined these musical genres. The band even gave rise to Led Zeppelin. During the mid-1960s, they had a string of hits, including For Your Love, Heart Full of Soul, Shapes of Things, and Over Under Sideways Down. Celebrating his 30th year as a Yardbird, vocalist John Idan has lent his distinctive voice to the band's sound since its reformation, as showcased in the classic 2003 album Birdland, which features guest appearances by Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Slash, and Brian May. The current lineup of top-tier musicians includes guitarist Godfrey Townsend (who has worked with John Entwistle, Alan Parsons, Todd Rundgren, Ann Wilson of Heart, Christopher Cross, and Dave Mason, and served as musical director of The Turtles’ Happy Together Tour) and bassist Kenny Aaronson (who has played with Bob Dylan, Billy Idol, Rick Derringer, Brian Setzer, Dave Edmunds, and Joan Jett). The band is further enriched by percussionist, harmonica player, and backing vocalist Myke Scavone (The Doughboys, Ram Jam). The current lineup has recently completed work on a forthcoming live album, Mind the Gap.
