03 August 2023 – 21:00 / Maggia

A premiere at Magic Blues that we are sure we will remember for a long time. The winner of the Swiss Blues Award 2022 will open the night. Welcome back Marco!

Vallemaggia Magic Blues 2023 will close on Thursday, August 3, with the welcome return of "our own" Marco Marchi and his Mojo Workers, for the occasion an acoustic blues quintet made up of experienced musicians who have managed to carve a niche for themselves in the European blues scene, performing a repertoire of Blues, Ragtime, Early Jazz and Boogie from the 1920s to the 1950s. The band's sound is conceived in a wholly personal style. Winner in 2011 of the Swiss Blues Challenge and the prestigious Swiss Blues Award last year, Marco Marchi and The Mojo Workers are a breath of fresh air in the Blues world. Their approach to the Blues is innovative, exciting and unique, managing to carve a niche for themselves in the European blues scene. Today they are considered a certainty for the blues scene, with a long streak of concerts behind them, including numerous performances at international festivals. For the occasion, the Mojo Workers become five, with the addition of the very talented Danilo Moccia on trombone. It will be a big party and an opportunity to worthily celebrate the Swiss Blues Award 2022.

It is the turn of Danish guitarist and singer Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado to close the 2023 edition of Vallemaggia Magic Blues. Thorbjørn moves between Blues, R&B, Rock, Jazz and Soul and was named Danish Blues Musician of the Year in 2005. The octet has been in existence since 2014. Among his influences he cites Ray Charles and B.B.King. Since then the band has made a name for itself playing all over the world, and often at the entrance of the venues where they perform there is a "sold out" sign. The success is due to the consistency, the originality of the music, the strong friendship between the members, but above all to Thorbjørn's voice, which has already triggered critics to make all sorts of comparisons with great musicians of the past. Another premiere at Magic Blues, which we are sure we will remember for a long time!

A premiere at Magic Blues that we are sure we will remember for a long time!

Thorbjørn Risager is a Danish guitarist, singer and composer who moves between Blues, R&B, Rock, Jazz and Soul. He studied at the renowned Rytmisk Music Conservatory in Copenhagen and in 2002 founded the Thorbjørn Risager Blue7 septet with musicians from the Copenhagen blues scene, with whom he recorded his debut album Live 2004. In 2005, Risager was named Danish blues musician of the year. The octet Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado has been around since 2014, since the release of the CD Too Many Roads. Among his influences he mentions Ray Charles and B.B.King. Since then, the band has made a name for itself by playing all over the world, and the words "sold out" at the entrance of the venues where they perform. The octet's success is due to the consistency, the originality of the music, the strong friendship between the members, but above all to Thorbjørn's voice, which has already prompted critics to make all sorts of comparisons with great musicians of the past. Although Thorbjørn writes most of the songs, the arrangements that give them their typical Risager sound are created in the band's rehearsal room in Vesterbro in the heart of Copenhagen. Another characteristic is the dynamic structure of many of the songs: from a sparingly orchestrated intro with 'naked' vocals to a force that almost blows your mind. A premiere at Magic Blues, which we are sure we will remember for a long time.

Welcome back Marco, new winner of the Swiss Blues Award 2022

Winner of the Swiss Blues Challenge in 2011 and the prestigious Swiss Blues Award last year, Marco Marchi and his Mojo Workers are a breath of fresh air in the Blues world. Their approach is innovative, exciting and unique. 'They came to Memphis and blew us away with great songs, great musicianship and great personalities'. Words of William Bearden, IBC member, KBA winner and well-known film producer. Marco Marchi & The Mojo Workers is an acoustic Blues quartet of highly experienced musicians. They have managed to carve a niche in the European Blues scene by performing a repertoire of Blues, Ragtime, Piedmont, Early Jazz and Boogie from the 1920s to the 1950s. The band's sound is conceived in a very personal style. Their songs are interpreted by absorbing the original energy and playing with passion and authenticity. The result: an engaging blend of sounds full of pathos from the past. Since their first concert in the autumn of 2009, the band has enjoyed growing success with both international audiences and the music press. Today they are considered a certainty for the Blues scene with a long string of concerts behind them, including numerous performances at international festivals. For the occasion, the Mojo Workers will become five with the addition of the talented Danilo Moccia on trombone. It will be a big party and a worthy occasion to celebrate the Swiss Blues Award.
