17 July 2024 – 21:00 / Moghegno

Raw soul from the 1970s fused with contemporary blues-rock and Americana from the Dutch-Band Harlem Lake for the first night in Moghegno. David Minster, a bluesman with the voice of a lion, will open the evening

"We love to blend the raw Soul of the 70s with contemporary Blues-rock and Americana! We want to share our passion and stories with the world. In 2022 we won the European Blues Challenge and got to do several tours in Europe. We will continue to build our dream!" This is how Harlem Lake introduce themselves. Enthusiastic, exciting and energetic: Harlem Lake can convince with their own songs and also with Blues classics. Although recently formed, they have already gone through many of the nightmares of all bands: a breakup and Covid canceling all concerts. Nonetheless, they found a brilliant new rhythm section, used their free time to record an album, and in 2022 their perseverance and hard work paid off. All to be discovered!

Opening the evening is David Minster, a Valaisan singer and guitarist with an unusual background and a low, cavernous voice reminiscent of Johnny Hallyday's when he sings in French. Welcome to the Vallemaggia Magic Blues.

"We love to fuse raw 70s Soul with contemporary blues-rock and americana! We want to share our passion and stories with the world. In 2022 we won the European Blues Challenge and had the chance to do several tours in Europe. We will continue to build our dream. Thank you for coming on board and we hope to see you soon at one of our shows!"  This is how Harlem Lake introduce themselves. Enthusiastic, exciting, and energetic: Harlem Lake can convince with their songs and also with blues classics. Although recently formed, they have already been through many of the nightmares of all bands: a disbandment and Covid cancelling all concerts. Nevertheless, they found a brilliant new rhythm section, used the time off to record an album and in 2022 their perseverance and hard work paid off. The debut album A Fools Paradise Vol.1 shows the band's great potential, with americana, southern rock, soul and blues dominating throughout. Influences of Joe Bonamassa, Dire Straits, Little Feat and BB King blend unmistakably into their music. The sound of the lead guitar meets the ever-popular sound of the Hammond B3 organ, which band leader Dave Warmerdam virtuosic evokes from his instrument. They sound familiar, as if from the 1960s and 1970s. Still, the sound is quite new. The lyrics, with their poetic metaphors perfectly suited to the arrangements, are written by their singer Janne. The recent live album Volition live is of value.

David Minster

CH

David Minster is a singer and guitarist from Valais with an unusual background. His low, cavernous voice is reminiscent of Johnny Hallyday when he sings in French, although he admits to being rather influenced by American artists. The son of gypsies, originally from central Valais, he has lived in Texas. He strummed his first guitar at the age of 6 and grew up with rock music. Grandson of French rock'n'roll cult figure Vince Taylor and brother-in-law of Calvin Russell, David Minster has much to be proud of. At the age of 14, he gave his first concert and today, 20 years later, he is about to release his first album. He claims that his love for the stage is so all-consuming that it leaves him little time for composing. He owes his passion for the stage to his uncle, Vince Taylor: 'The theatricality he had, his stage presence, was magnificent. That rebellious bad boy quality'. For a long time, David Minster thought his uncle was an excellent impersonator, especially of Elvis. It was only later that he realized that he was actually a pioneer. "When you look at the dates, Vince was there long before Elvis". David Minster also owes much to his brother-in-law, Calvin Russell, whom he had the opportunity to follow on tour. He likes to say: 'My father passed on the love of music to me. Calvin passed on to me the love for the stage, for performing and sharing, for writing. He inspired me a lot and I followed him everywhere'.
